A tagcard. TOP: front message, BOTTOM: back message.

Hand drawn. Intended it to be simple and loud. Not much graphics, as focus was on color usage&meaning. Chose magenta and analogous green colors, so it is pretty loud, but aint yelling out, as if i were to use red and green, these 2 contrasting colors.

Magenta is chosen as a color of attention and attraction as it is color of red mix pink

picture2.jpg

[red being the easiest color to recognise]

picture3.jpg

[pink being the fourth in attention value.-lect notes]

Green is chosen as it is a contrasting color of red, but as i dont want a striking attention, i subdued it with different shades and tint. Also, the green for letters “t,e,n” symbolises color of peace. {lect notes}

Front: You Attract ME. [picture of the flight of the moth..which link to the back]– AttractMe is closely space, to indicate the attraction to me. Use calligraphy brush, to bring out the flow, the flight of the moth…Bolded letter ‘A’ in a darker green, to bring out the word ‘attract’ as the letter ‘A’ is repeated, hence double the effect of luring one’s attention to it.

Back: Like Fire to a Moth–Chose to highlight letters I & O so as to draw attention to both the words, and no particular reason, except, to make it in order and visual balance, i highlighted the second letter for both words. Both words are also shaped in accordance to its meaning, say for word, ‘fire’  it is in a wave form simulating the flame of fire, whereas the word, ‘moth’ is in perspective [shrink from left to right] as the moth flew pass it, sweeping the tip of the word.

Background: White for front. Black for back.– White is chosen to give a fresh and subtle impression, so as to not fight for attention with the words, and also clearer as compared to words on black, which might ’shrink’ in size.

PR: Saw it as you attract MEn! hahaha. Another indicates that the contrast in color aint sharp. One suggests that i highlight the letters I & M instead, to form IM. hm interesting. thks! Phrasing is wrong…should be like moth to fire…..hmm, checking. last, shrink it.

me: could be better design, dabbling with other designs ive initially…

Much changes to second page [bottom page]

More sweet and gentle theme, uses analogous pink, and grey [ off black] to bring out the subtle message in it. Didnot use black as it might appear too strong and fades the message.

Also, I and M are painted in different color as it forms the word, ‘ i am’ -peer review. lastly, the black background is foregone, as it is way to strong and glaring to eyes, plus the pretty messy patterns [ when on close look, looks sickly colorful] hence, it is also removed and replaced by roses [ white and pink-symbolises purity and sweet love ] instead.

a5-2.jpg

A third version. Included the cupid logo design. and make it simple and colorful instead.

i feel that this version is nicest, as it convey the message, directly, with the vibrance of colors used. =)

Poster:

Save Toner. Use Laser

I did this after many tries. ive been thinking of doing a ’save’ poster such as save the child. divorce aint the only way out. save the intelligence. save water. save sissy.

eventually i chose this as it is a simple and straighforward message to bring across, im trying to sell laser printer rather than inkjet printer. Laser printer prints in volume, with its given bigger memory capacity and also, it prints in approx 16ppm, much faster than an inkjet. Moreover, it is more cost saving to buy laser printer, as the refill allows a lot more number of print outs. Thus the tagline: Save Toner. Use Laser.

a4

ps: Toner is aka ink cartridge for inkjet printer. As toner is often used in laser printers, here, save toner means to reach out and use toner, {hidden message: save toner from ink cartridge} thus use laser printer. The white portion between the tag and picture, is part of the paper, to indicate that the printing aint clear, so nothing is captured on the top part of the paper.

PR: One aint sure why i chose this phrase, suggests that i could add in a sub text. another suggests that i shift the phrase down,so as to reduce the awkardness reflected by the white portion.

Indeed,  this is quite a disappointing one, as my brain was fried…aik. construction for betterment..in progress.

a4d2

a4d3

The above two editions a progression afterPR.I change the message to Save time save cost save more. Use laser printer. this is MORE direct and comprehensible.

for the one above, i desaturated the picture, to paint a duller and flat pic so as to portray the poor functional aspects if u dont use laser printer to print.

Whereas, for the one below i increased the saturation and less gamma and exposure so as to hide the face, from attention and also to seek attention as one may go nearer to the poster to look at this ‘headless’ body.

finally, I choose to present in two different color styles so as to grab different attention and convey the subtle message, that laser printer will provide you a better cost saving solution, without such unclear and ‘flat’ picture. Moreover, in order to capture the idea, i choose to use more vibrant and colorful words to draw attention too.

Pic4-saturated red glow, to reflect

pending danger.

Pic 5-tigresses and background is tinted

with yellow [sick] and darker contrast.

they are darken, as the tigress is in

hiding. yellow, as a pretty sick color

suggests that tigress’ emotion,when

she caught him red-handed flirting

with others–sick.

t7rd

Pic 6- darkened to instill deep and tense

 feelings as brighter situations are

usually for lighthearted and happy

matters. but in pic 6, it is a upfront

confrontation-fear & awkardness

t9rd.jpg

Pic 7-clearer as the focus is on the

revealing of the gender of tiger,

hence the bikini color shouts out.

t10rd

Pic 8-desaturated background and

tigress, as well as the symbol of love

[heart shape], so as to indicate that

tigress is leaving him, and their

relationship is a thing of

a past-no longer ‘colorful’.

Generally…

Pic 1-3

Background: grey and pink, with exception of pic 2 grey and hot pink. pink as symbol of love and tender when in company of grey, an offset of black, is less contrasting and glaring. hot pink is chosen as alternate representation of an insidious love affair-the tiger with two other tigresses.

Pic 4-8

Background: black and brown, a combination switch to show that its outiside, outdoor. as brown is a color close to earth color, and black, an intense grey, suggest pending tension and seriousness. [ the probability of finding out the affair ]

In general, there are more expressions and mood setting, hopefully to simulate emotions. The story is also slightly shortened to prevent confusion, as suggested.

Top-Down [pic 1-10]

Use of space & perspective.

-Try to situate the main focus nearer [ hence appear larger] and the cause/sub-focus at the background.

Take for example pic 2, where the tigress is holding a heart in the background, symbolises that she is still in love, or rather she thinks that the tiger isnt unfaithful and still loves her, while ironically in the foreground, i portray the tiger ‘flirting’ with two other tigress, but she is unaware [as she is looking elsewhere in the pic]

Take for example pic 10, tiger is holding a broken heart, symbolising that they have broken up.  Although tiger is in the foreground, he appear blurry as compared to tigress in the background, as she leaves. trying to portray tiger’s sad emotions by the blur, despite it being nearer to viewer which contrasts with the clear image of the tigress leaving in the background.  the blur was intended also to signify him losing his girlfriend, tigress, hence he is alone, unstable, lost without her, the world he sees is no longer clear and beautiful.

Use of  rule of thirds

Take for examples: pic 4-8

In pic 8, both focus are placed on thirds, vertically and horizontally, with some space in between. both are focus to portray the tigress fighting with tiger, for being unfaithful, while upon seeing so, the other two tigresses ran off [ a natural response/reaction for those who are guilty of doing something wrong, and knowing that the situation has turned bad, would flee for their lives-instinctively.] Also the space in between is also to suggest that they indeed have ran off, as i aint able to portray movement-running in a still photograph.

1: A couple tiger and tigress in love.

2: Tiger is flirting outside, while tigress in the background[holding on to ther heart-symbolic of their shared love] is remaining faithful. [contrast]

3 However, tigress got suspicious and went to check tiger’s clothing, while he is asleep in the background. tigress spotted red lipstick mark!

4. Tigress wore a wig as disguise, and tailed after tiger.

5. Tiger too, got suspicious, and turned around to check. But tiger found nothing as tigress hid behind a fence.

6. Tigress continued to tail tiger, and caught him flirting with two other tigresses with her own eyes.

7. Disappointed and angry, tigress confronted them.

8. Tigress fought with tiger while the two other tigresses ran away as they sense ‘danger’

9. whilst fighting, the tigress realised that tiger is actually a tigress too as he-she is wearing a bikini.

10. Tigress could not accept the fact and left the tiger, which is a tigress actually, leaving the tiger heartbroken too.

PR: Add emotions through symbols [ reference to comic strips ] or colors to reveal emotions/mood of situations. Change the bikini color to make it more obvious in pic 9. [chose a brown bikini set, which blends with the tiger's skin color, so it will look natural =)  however, since it is the twist of the story, i agree to the change.] Simplify the story.
